Zaire Blessing Wade, the oldest son of Basketball Hall of Famer Dwyane Wade, is scheduled to return to the Pasadena Courthouse on Tuesday, Oct. 13, for a proceeding to set a preliminary hearing date in his felony domestic violence case, according to hearing information supplied to the newsroom.

The 8:30 a.m. appearance is listed for Department H at the courthouse, 300 E. Walnut St. The Los Angeles County Superior Court’s directory identifies Department H as Room 600B on the sixth floor and gives its telephone number as (626) 396-3314.

The Pasadena appearance follows Wade’s July 16 arraignment at the same courthouse. Wade, 24, pleaded not guilty to one felony count of inflicting corporal injury on a person with whom he had a dating relationship, according to reports of that hearing.

The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office filed the felony complaint July 9 in connection with an alleged incident June 21 in Burbank. Prosecutors allege Wade injured a woman identified in the complaint only as Jane Doe. The woman’s identity has not been publicly disclosed, according to People magazine, which reviewed the complaint.

Burbank police arrested Wade after responding to a report of a woman screaming at a residence. Police initially booked him on suspicion of domestic violence, criminal threats and false imprisonment, a department representative told People. Those initial arrest allegations are separate from the single felony count prosecutors ultimately filed. Wade was released the day of his arrest after posting $50,000 bail, according to the magazine.

At the July arraignment, defense attorney Kevin Moghtanei told reporters that his client denied the charge and intended to contest the allegations in court. News reports at the time identified Sept. 24 as a preliminary hearing date. The latest hearing information instead describes Tuesday’s proceeding as one to set a date for that hearing.

A criminal charge is an accusation, not a conviction. Wade is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
