Pasadena Details Closures and Access Restrictions for New Year’s Festivities

The City of Pasadena has released its official street closure and alternate access plan ahead of New Year’s celebrations, impacting key areas from December 31 through January 3. The closures are tied to the annual Rose Parade and associated events, and residents are advised to prepare for detours, restricted access, and temporary parking regulations.

Area 1: South of Green St. Between Grand Ave. & Pasadena Ave.

Timeframe: December 31, 8 p.m. – January 1, 2 p.m.
Residents in this area will maintain access with appropriate passes. However, Orange Grove Boulevard between Colorado Boulevard and Columbia Street will be closed to all vehicular traffic.

Area 2: Colorado Blvd., Sierra Madre Blvd., and Adjacent Streets

Timeframe: December 31, 10 p.m. – January 1, 2 p.m.
New restrictions are in place for Colorado Boulevard, with closures spanning St. John Avenue to Delacy Avenue and Marengo Avenue to Euclid Avenue starting at 6 p.m. The remaining parade route will shut down to through traffic at 10 p.m. on December 31. Cross-traffic will remain open at select points until 6 a.m. on January 1. Emergency vehicles will have access, but the Colorado Street Bridge will close entirely at 8 p.m. on December 31 and reopen with the rest of the route on January 1.

Area 3: North of Orange Grove Blvd. Between Altadena Dr. & Sierra Madre Villa

Timeframe: December 31, 3 p.m. – January 3, 11 p.m.
Local access will require an appropriate pass during Post Parade event days. Sierra Madre Boulevard and Washington Boulevard will be closed to through traffic from December 31, 3 p.m., to January 3, 11 p.m. Northbound traffic on Sierra Madre Boulevard will be maintained during the Post Parade on January 1–3. Residents should also note posted parking restriction signs on Altadena Drive and Orange Grove Boulevard.

Area 4: 134 Freeway & West of 210 Freeway

Timeframe: January 1, 6 a.m. – January 1, 11 p.m.
Local resident access will remain available with appropriate passes. The Rose Bowl loop will be closed to general recreational use. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to temporary and restricted parking signage along Linda Vista Avenue, South Arroyo Boulevard, California Avenue, Orange Grove Avenue, and Walnut Street.

Plan Ahead and Stay Informed

City officials encourage residents and visitors to review the closure map and plan alternate routes ahead of time. Those attending parade events or navigating affected areas are advised to allow extra travel time and follow posted signage and instructions from traffic enforcement personnel.
