Pasadena Federal Credit Union, founded in 1935 by City of Pasadena employees, changed its name to Paseo Credit Union on Thursday, Oct. 1, saying its membership now reaches well beyond the city.

“Our story started in Pasadena, and Pasadena will always be part of who we are,” James Chang, the credit union’s president and chief executive officer, said in the release. “But our members have grown and changed along with this region, and so have we.”

The change is in name only, the credit union told members. It is not a merger, an acquisition or a change to its banking systems, and members do not need to take any action.

Account, routing and member numbers stay the same, the credit union said. Online and mobile banking logins are unchanged, and existing direct deposits and automatic payments will continue.

Debit and credit cards will keep working. Cards carrying the Paseo name will be issued gradually as current cards expire or are replaced.

Deposits remain federally insured by the National Credit Union Administration, and dropping the word “Federal” from the name does not change that coverage, the credit union said.

The credit union is keeping its existing web address, and a new Paseo address redirects to it.

New branding will appear gradually across branches and materials, and members may still see the Pasadena Federal Credit Union name in some places during the transition, the credit union said in a press release. It said branch celebrations are planned.

For many years, membership was limited to City of Pasadena employees and their families. The credit union became community-chartered in October 2023 and completed a merger with Pasadena Service Federal Credit Union in March 2024.

The credit union said in the release that it has more than 25,000 members and more than $380 million in assets and is headquartered in Monrovia. It said its service area stretches from Glendale to West Covina and south through Bell Gardens and Huntington Park.

It lists branches at 1285 N. Lake Ave. and 670 N. Rosemead Blvd. in Pasadena and at 6840 Eastern Ave. in Bell Gardens, plus a branch at John Muir High School open only to students and faculty.

Tungsten Branding, a company naming firm, said in a separate announcement that it worked with the credit union to develop the name. “Paseo” is a Spanish word meaning a walk or promenade, the firm said.

Members with questions can call 800-445-7328 or visit any branch, the credit union said.
