During the week of August 5-9, 2013 Pasadena First Responders, in conjunction with the Pasadena Unified School District (PUSD), will conduct training exercises at Washington Middle School in Pasadena. Officers and Fire Fighters will work through mock scenarios that simulate the realistic problems associated with emergency response and the management of high risk situations.
The training will occur each day between the hours of 1 p.m. and 4 p.m.. School offices will be open for business, but classes will not be in session and the general public will not have access to the training area. The public should not be alarmed if they see an increased public safety presence at the school during those hours.
“The Pasadena Police and Fire Departments and the Pasadena Unified School District are committed to maintaining community safety, especially in our schools. Training scenarios like this are essential for preparedness, ” stated Police Chief Phillip L. Sanchez.
PUSD Superintendent Jon R. Gundry said, “PUSD is appreciative that the Pasadena Police Department recognizes an emergency at a school site presents a unique set of challenges. These exercises are an example of the premium we all put on the safety and security of our students and staff.”
