Students as young as grade-school age will join college students, young professionals and older community members in Pasadena on Saturday, Oct. 17, for a public discussion examining how different generations of girls and women view politics, leadership and civic responsibility.
The National Women’s Political Caucus Greater Pasadena Area has scheduled “The Intergenerational Conversation on Politics” at Pasadena Media, 150 S. Los Robles Ave., Suite 101. The program is scheduled from 10:45 a.m. to 1 p.m., with free admission and required advance registration, according to an Oct. 11 announcement from the organization.
The discussion will bring together nine panelists representing different stages of life, from elementary school through adulthood. Organizers say the format is intended to explore how political awareness develops, what motivates people to participate in civic life and how generations can learn from one another.
The younger panelists include Sora Basley, representing grade school; Maya Tapia, middle school; and Savannah Morey and Azzy Hamdani, high school.
Stephanie Flores-Lainez will represent college students, while Danae Tapia and Amanda Faissal will participate as young professionals. Lisa Morales and Sandra Greenstein are listed as representatives of older generations, described by organizers as “legacy voices.”
Charlotte “Char” Bland and Journey Christine are scheduled to moderate the discussion.
According to the caucus announcement, the conversation will address leadership throughout life, civic participation, mentorship between generations, women’s political leadership and the role of younger people in shaping their communities.
The organizers say the panel will give younger participants an opportunity to discuss their understanding of political issues alongside adults who have accumulated experience through professional and community involvement.
The National Women’s Political Caucus Greater Pasadena Area serves Pasadena, Altadena, Glendale, Sierra Madre and La Cañada. The organization describes itself as a multipartisan grassroots group that recruits, trains and supports pro-choice women seeking elected and appointed public offices.
The local chapter also provides political training and supports opportunities for women to participate in public decision-making.
Saturday’s program is open to community members, students, families, educators and others interested in civic affairs, according to the announcement.
Organizers say seating is limited and doors will close at 11 a.m. Pasadena Media also plans to stream the discussion for people unable to attend in person.
Advance registration is required for in-person attendance.
