The National Weather Service said Thursday that Pasadena will endure one final day of dangerous heat before cooler, more seasonal conditions return by the weekend.
Forecasters reported today’s high near 102 degrees, with heat index values reaching 119. Winds will remain light, shifting south-southwest in the afternoon. The agency warned that extreme heat and humidity continue to pose a risk of heat illness.
The city continues cooling center operations at the Jackie Robinson Community Center through Thursday night.
The center, at 1020 N. Fair Oaks Ave. in northwest Pasadena, gives residents an air-conditioned place to escape the heat. Forecasters have warned that the heat poses a high risk of illness for older adults, young children and people without air conditioning.
Sunny skies dominate Pasadena today as temperatures climb into the upper 90s. Winds are calm, offering little relief from the oppressive heat.
Cooling begins Friday, with highs dropping to about 90 degrees. Humidity levels will ease, and overnight lows will fall into the mid-60s. By Saturday, highs will reach near 85 degrees, marking a return to normal values.
The temperature trend shows a steady decline from Thursday’s peak, with highs falling nearly 20 degrees by early next week. Overnight lows will cool from the low 70s tonight to the upper 50s by Tuesday.
No rain is forecast for Pasadena during this period. Skies will remain mostly clear, with only patchy morning clouds possible over the weekend.
Winds will stay light, generally around 5 mph, shifting between southwest and southeast directions. Breezes will strengthen slightly in the afternoons but remain below advisory levels.
For the weekend, Pasadena residents can expect sunny skies and highs in the mid-80s. Nights will cool into the low 60s, offering more comfortable conditions.
Locally, the heat has strained cooling centers and increased electricity demand. Officials continue urging residents to limit outdoor activity, stay hydrated, and check on vulnerable neighbors until temperatures ease.
Heat warnings remain in effect through Thursday evening. Forecasters said the risk will diminish Friday as cooler air and lower humidity move in.
Looking ahead, next week will bring mild weather. Highs will settle in the low 80s, with overnight lows in the upper 50s. Skies will stay mostly clear, with occasional morning clouds.
