Pasadena Heritage is organizing a Wikipedia Edit-a-Thon set for April 26 to document and preserve the history of properties and landscapes that were damaged or destroyed by recent wildfires. The free event, scheduled from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Blinn House in Pasadena, was designed to create a digital record of what was lost and to strengthen the community’s collective memory through collaborative documentation.

“The recent fires have left us all in shock, altering landscapes and communities in ways that are difficult to comprehend,” Pasadena Heritage said in the event announcement. “In response, we invite you to join us for a public Wikipedia edit-a-thon—a space for remembrance, healing, and action.”

During this event, participants will focus on three main activities: uploading and archiving photographs of affected areas, expanding and creating Wikipedia articles on the fire’s impact, casualties, and historical significance, and sharing knowledge, stories, and resources to strengthen public records. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own photos of properties lost or damaged to help expand the historical record.

“This is more than just an edit-a-thon; it’s a way to process loss, uplift our communities, and ensure that what once stood is not forgotten,” Pasadena Heritage said. “Join us in preserving these memories and shaping a collective history that honors both destruction and resilience.”

Experienced Wikipedia editors will be available to guide newcomers through the process, making the event accessible to people of all skill levels.

“All levels of experience are welcome—whether you’re a researcher, writer, photographer, or someone looking to contribute in any way,” the announcement notes. “Your contributions will be invaluable.”

Attendees are asked to bring laptops, as Wi-Fi will be provided at the venue. The organizers strongly recommend creating a Wikipedia account before the event to avoid potential registration issues that can occur with new accounts created on-site.

Additional resources and registration information are available through the event’s dedicated Wikipedia page, which may be seen here.

The Blinn House, where the event will take place, is located at 160 N. Oakland Ave., in downtown Pasadena. For further information, attendees can contact Pasadena Heritage at (626) 796-0560 or visit the venue’s website.
