A local religious organization is rallying volunteers to help the homeless as temperatures drop.
Pasadena Hindu Temple will assemble 100 care packages Wednesday, Nov. 19, at 1 p.m. The packages will include winter essentials and food for people experiencing homelessness.
The temple has already secured 100 sets of emergency blankets, socks, beanies and gloves. Community donations made this possible.
“We will be distributing sanitizing and personal hygiene kits along with sandwiches, fresh fruit, drinks, and water,” Pasadena Hindu Temple said in a social media message. “For this we are collecting money, canned food, soup, and ready-to-eat meals.”
The temple is still collecting money, canned food, soup and ready-to-eat meals. Donors can contribute items directly or send money via Zelle to (626) 533-9709.
The assembly event Wednesday offers community members a hands-on opportunity to serve. Volunteers will gather at the temple to pack the supplies into distribution-ready packages.
The temple thanked supporters in a social media post. Officials described the effort as “an urgent appeal for the less fortunate.”
The initiative addresses immediate needs during colder months. Winter weather poses particular dangers for unsheltered individuals.
Community members can still contribute before the Wednesday assembly event.
