Pasadena Humane has launched an emergency response operation to protect and care for animals affected by the Eaton Fire, establishing itself as the designated evacuation center for pets within the fire zone.

The organization has implemented extended stray hold periods and emergency boarding services while urging residents to avoid entering burn zones for animal rescue attempts.

“Pasadena Humane serves as a critical lifeline for pets impacted by the Eaton Fire, and every evacuated area in the Eaton Fire currently falls within our service area,” the organization reported in its emergency update. “We are committed to providing care and resources to support our community during this unprecedented emergency.”

The shelter has deployed trained emergency responders to provide on-ground assistance, including animal evacuation, medical care, and distribution of food and supplies within the fire zone.

To help pet reunification efforts, the organization has extended its stray hold period to 21 days and directs pet owners to visit their Pet Connect page.

Emergency boarding facilities have been established for pets whose families have been evacuated, ensuring animals are cared for until families can safely reclaim them.

For immediate assistance, pet owners who have lost, found, or had to leave pets behind in the fire zone can contact the shelter’s dispatch at 626-792-7151 x 970.

Those needing help with injured wildlife should call or text a separate dedicated line at 626-344-1129.

The shelter emphasizes that for safety reasons, residents should not enter burn zones to attempt animal rescues, as trained responders are on-site and equipped to handle these situations.

The community’s response has been overwhelming, prompting several temporary service adjustments. Pasadena Humane has suspended acceptance of pet supply donations, noting they are “fully stocked and unable to store additional items without impairing our operations.” The shelter is also no longer accepting additional foster volunteers, as most animals in their care are emergency boarding pets awaiting reunion with their families. New volunteer applications have been temporarily paused while the organization works to onboard current applicants.

However, the shelter continues to seek monetary donations through give.pasadenahumane.org/fire, citing a “significant increase in the number of burned and injured animals coming to our shelter.”
