Pasadena Implements One-Day Weekly Watering Schedule Under Level 2 Drought Plan

Residents can now water their lawns just one day per week under new restrictions that took effect Saturday, Nov. 1.

Pasadena’s Level 2 Water Supply Shortage Plan dictates the schedule. Residents with even-numbered addresses may water on Mondays. Those with odd-numbered addresses get Tuesdays.

The one-day-per-week winter outdoor irrigation schedule runs through March 31. It aims to preserve water resources during the dry season.

All watering must occur before 9 a.m. or after 6 p.m.

Pasadena Water and Power (PWP) enforces the restrictions for all residential customers, including apartments and condominiums.

Property owners must fix leaks within 48 hours of discovery or notice. Filling ornamental lakes or ponds is prohibited except to sustain aquatic life.

The city maintains permanent water waste prohibitions year-round. No watering is allowed between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. except with hand-held containers or hoses with shut-off nozzles.

Residents cannot water during rain or within 48 hours after significant rainfall. Runoff onto adjacent property, walkways or streets is banned.

Several exemptions exist. Low-flow drip irrigation systems qualify if emitters produce less than 2 gallons per hour. Hand watering with shut-off nozzles is always permitted.

Tree maintenance and edible gardens receive special consideration. Watering for fire protection purposes is also exempt.

Pasadena adopted its water waste ordinance in 2009. The city has operated under Level 2 restrictions since September 2021.
