Pasadena and the rest of the Los Angeles County San Gabriel Valley will be under a Wind Advisory from 4 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday as the National Weather Service warns of widespread gusty conditions across southwest California.

The advisory, issued Wednesday afternoon by the National Weather Service’s Los Angeles/Oxnard office, calls for southwest winds of 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 40 mph across most coast and valley areas of southwest California, including Pasadena, Los Angeles, Malibu, Santa Clarita, Ventura County valleys, and Catalina Island.

A separate High Wind Warning will be in effect during the same hours for the Antelope Valley, Cuyama Valley, San Luis Obispo County interior valleys and mountains, and the Santa Barbara County interior mountains. Those areas are expected to see stronger southwest winds of 25 to 40 mph with gusts up to 65 mph, especially in the mountains and the Antelope Valley.

According to the Weather Service, damaging winds in the warning zones could blow down trees and power lines, with widespread power outages possible. Travel will be difficult, especially for high-profile vehicles.

In Pasadena and other advisory areas, forecasters said gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result.

The Weather Service urged residents to remain in the lower levels of their homes during the windstorm, avoid windows, watch for falling debris and tree limbs, and use caution if they must drive.
