Pasadena Issues Red Flag Warning and Parking Restrictions as Fire Concerns Arise

Published on Tuesday, November 5, 2024 | 10:19 am

Pasadena Fire Chief Chad Augustin has directed the activation of Red Flag Parking Restrictions within the city. This alert is effective from 4 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 6, through 6 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 7. The alert can be extended based on weather conditions.

The restrictions prohibit parking on designated narrow and winding roads within the city’s urban-wildland interface areas to ensure emergency vehicle access and resident evacuation if needed. Violating vehicles will be cited and towed.

Officials urge residents to make alternative parking plans before the restrictions take effect.

Officials warn that a Red Flag Warning indicates critical fire weather conditions are expected, which combined with dry fuels could create extreme fire danger.

Residents are advised to use caution with potential fire sources.

Additional fire patrols have been deployed to Foothill areas as a precautionary measure. Officials are urging residents to review evacuation plans and ensure emergency kits are fully stocked.

The City is also encouraging residents to register for multiple emergency notification systems, beginning with the Pasadena Local Emergency Alert System (PLEAS), which sends alerts only in cases of imminent danger requiring action such as evacuation. After registering for PLEAS, residents should also sign up for Alert LA County’s mass notification system.

The Pasadena Police Department uses Nixle as its primary notification system, available by registering at Nixle.com or texting their ZIP code to 888777.
