Pasadena Launches Residential E-Bike Rebate Program With Rebates up to $1000

Published on Monday, July 3, 2023 | 7:41 am

Pasadena Water and Power (PWP) launched a new program on July 1 that offers residential electric customers rebates to purchase new electric bicycles at local bicycle stores.

The program provides a $500 rebate for customers who purchase a qualifying electric bicycle from a bike shop within the City of Pasadena. A $250 bonus rebate is available for the purchase of new qualifying electric cargo bikes or adaptive electric bicycles, increasing the total potential rebate to $750. Customers enrolled in PWP’s income-qualified bill payment assistance program are eligible for an additional $250 bonus rebate, bringing the maximum possible rebate amount to $1,000.

The program aims to promote environmentally conscious transportation solutions. Electric bicycles have been recognized for reducing greenhouse gas emissions and lowering one’s carbon footprint.

To qualify for the rebate, customers must purchase a new Class 1, Class 2, or Class 3 electric bicycle as defined by the California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV). The bicycle must be purchased at a bike shop in Pasadena.

Used electric bicycles, scooters, mopeds, segways, and e-bike conversion kits do not qualify for the rebate.

Customers must submit an online rebate application within 180 days from the date of purchase, accompanied by the necessary documentation.

Applications must be submitted through the customer’s PWP account, and supporting documentation must be uploaded. Once approved, the rebate check will be sent to the customer within 6 to 8 weeks.

Only PWP residential electric customers are eligible for this program, and there is a limit of two rebates per PWP residential electric account. The rebate amount cannot exceed the cost of the electric bicycle. The primary owner of the new electric bicycle must reside at the PWP residential electric service address listed on the rebate application.

PWP may verify the purchase and installation of the product(s) under this program at any time. Funds are limited and will be allocated based on program incentives at the time of application submission.
