Pasadena Law Firm Builds Its Own Case Software and Puts It to Work Across the Whole Staff

A Pasadena employment law firm says it has stopped waiting for the software market and started building its own.

D.Law, the plaintiff-side firm headquartered on North Madison Avenue, announced Thursday that it has developed a litigation-management system called TREO entirely in-house and now uses it across its entire staff.

TREO stands for Time, Records, Evidence and Outcomes. According to D.Law, the system organizes a case around four functions: tracking deadlines, statutes and calendars; storing and retrieving documents; linking evidence and testimony to the claims they support; and flagging what is moving a case forward and what isn’t. The firm describes it as a “litigation OS” rather than case-management software.

D.Law said the tool was built by its internal technology team under Chief Technology Officer Valeri Tavadyan. The company said all of its more than 200 employees — attorneys, paralegals, intake and support staff — now work in the system, and said each saves four to five hours a week.

“We built TREO because we needed it. We built it well enough that it doesn’t have to stay ours,” said Emil Davtyan, the firm’s founder. “We think of ourselves as a technology company that practices employment law, not a law firm that happens to use software.”

Tavadyan said the firm’s own caseload shaped the product.

“We had something most software teams never get — the users were down the hall,” he said. “Every feature in TREO exists because someone handling real cases told us what was breaking. That feedback loop is the product.”

D.Law represents employees rather than employers in wrongful-termination, discrimination, harassment, retaliation and wage-and-hour matters, and describes itself as one of California’s largest plaintiff-side employment law firms.

The company consolidated four Los Angeles County offices into a newly constructed Pasadena headquarters earlier this year and maintains satellite offices in a dozen California cities, according to the firm.

It was named to Inc. magazine’s Best Workplaces list in 2025 and again in 2026.

For now, the firm said, TREO is used only inside D.Law. Davtyan suggested that may not always be the case: “We didn’t build an internal tool that happens to work well. We built software. Software rarely stays in one building.”
