A 46-year-old Pasadena man was arrested Wednesday night after striking a security guard with a chain and fleeing on a bicycle in the 100 block of West California Boulevard, Pasadena Police Lt. Sam De Sylva said.
The assault was reported at 9:43 p.m. on April 15 and followed a verbal altercation between the suspect and a 30-year-old Pasadena man who was working as a security guard, De Sylva said.
The victim had been attempting to contact the suspect for an unknown reason when the confrontation began, according to De Sylva. The suspect then struck the victim with a chain and chased him, De Sylva said.
Responding officers located the victim, who identified the suspect and directed officers to him, De Sylva said. When officers attempted to make contact, the suspect failed to comply with commands and fled the scene on a bicycle, De Sylva said.
The suspect was subsequently detained and taken into custody without incident, De Sylva said. Officers later recovered the chain used in the assault, De Sylva said.
The victim sustained an approximately half-inch laceration to his right forearm and declined medical assistance, according to De Sylva.
The suspect, whose name was not released, was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and obstructing a police officer, De Sylva said.
The distance the suspect traveled on the bicycle before being detained was not listed in the report provided by police, De Sylva said.
