A trial date is scheduled to be set Friday morning for Mark Anthony Levels, the Pasadena man charged with murder in the 2023 shooting death of a fellow tenant at a North Fair Oaks Avenue apartment complex.
The 8:30 a.m. hearing in Department F of the Pasadena Courthouse comes 1,116 days — three years and 20 days — after Tynisha Houston, 34, was shot in a common area of the complex where she and Levels both lived.
Levels, 54 at the time of his arrest, has been held on $3.1 million bail since that same morning. The case has passed a preliminary hearing in February 2024 and multiple pretrial hearings without reaching trial.
The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office filed a felony complaint on Aug. 10, 2023, charging murder under Penal Code Section 187(a) in case GA115036.
Officers were dispatched to the complex at about 1:10 a.m. on Aug. 8, 2023, following a report of a fight. They found Houston, a Pasadena resident, suffering from gunshot wounds, the Pasadena Police Department said in a news release. Paramedics took her to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Police said an argument in a common area related to a tenant dispute, involving residents of two different units, reportedly escalated into a physical altercation and then the shooting. Officers detained Levels inside the complex a short time later.
