A 25-year-old Pasadena man was hospitalized with major injuries after being assaulted in the parking structure of the Pasadena Hotel on Sunday, March 22, according to Pasadena Police Lieutenant Anthony Russo.

Russo said officers responded at about 2:06 p.m. to the intersection of Mentor Avenue and Green Street after witnesses reported a man and woman punching and kicking a man. When officers arrived, they found the victim unconscious on the ground with significant facial swelling and injuries to his ear.

The victim told officers he had attempted to intervene in a fight between a man and a woman when the man attacked him, Russo said. Witnesses reported seeing the suspect kick the victim in the head while he was on the ground.

Pasadena Fire Department paramedics transported the victim to a local hospital for treatment, Russo said.

The suspect, identified by Russo as Marcus Sims, 41, of Pasadena, was located nearby and detained without incident. He was positively identified during a field show-up and booked into the Pasadena Police Department. Russo said the suspect used his hands and feet as weapons in the assault.

A female subject was also detained but determined not to be involved, Russo said.
