Pasadena residents will have the opportunity to safely dispose of unwanted electronics and securely shred sensitive documents at a free event on Saturday, August 17. The City’s Department of Public Works is sponsoring the e-waste recycling and paper shredding service from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The event will take place in Parking Lot I outside the Rose Bowl Stadium near Brookside Park at 360 North Arroyo Boulevard. To maintain safety, only vehicles will be allowed to enter the drop-off area, with no walk-ups permitted.
Accepted e-waste items include computers, keyboards, printers, monitors, laptops, docking stations, scanners, shredders, fax machines, computer mice, telephones, televisions, flat screens, VCRs, DVD players, PDAs, cassette players, tape drives, and stereos. The city will also collect household batteries and fluorescent and LED light bulbs for proper disposal.
“These items should never be disposed of in your trash or recycling containers,” the city said, underscoring the importance of responsible e-waste management.
In addition to electronics recycling, the event offers free paper shredding to help residents protect against identity theft. Participants may bring up to three legal-size boxes of sensitive documents for on-site destruction.
Acceptable items for shredding include receipts, checks, pre-approved credit applications, credit card statements, outdated tax returns, pre-printed envelopes, return address labels and business cards. Residents should remove documents from ring binders and bulldog/binder clips before shredding.
The duration of the event is subject to truck capacity, officials noted. This initiative is open only to Pasadena residents. Those seeking more information can contact the Department of Public Works at (626) 744-7311 or email recycle@cityofpasadena.net.
