Pasadena’s Parks, Recreation and Community Services (PRCS) Department will present updates on fall programming and community initiatives to the Recreation and Parks Commission Tuesday evening, Sept. 9.
The department is partnering with the Pasadena Latino Heritage Committee to host the 2025 Latino Heritage Festival on Oct. 11 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Centennial Square in front of City Hall. The Latino Heritage Parade will not be held this year.
This year’s theme is “Un Pasado con Orgullo, un Futuro con Esperanza” (A Proud Past, a Hopeful Future). The festival celebrates the strength and contributions of Pasadena’s Latino community.
The parade will not be held this year, but the festival will continue as planned.
Latino Heritage Month events will run from Sept. 19 through Oct. 24, the department said. Activities include concha making and a Day of the Dead celebration.
The department is competing to bring a free outdoor music series to Pasadena beginning in 2026. The initiative partners with the Pasadena Recreation and Parks Foundation and the Levitt Foundation.
Community members can vote for the proposal online at Levitt.org/Vote or by texting PASADENA to (877) 409-5525. Voting runs through Monday, Sept. 15.
The department expanded exercise programs for older adults. Chinese QiGong and Tai Chi classes run from Aug. 23 through Dec. 9 at Washington Park from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
Walking soccer for adults 55 and older meets Mondays and Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Villa Parke.
The report said PRCS staff completed field renovation work at Jefferson Park in August. The grass turf was rehabilitated for park users.
Citywide tree pruning is underway in coordination with Public Works-Forestry, according to the report. The annual maintenance ensures trees remain healthy and safe for visitors.
PRCS staff completed loader equipment training at Brookside Park. The training covered equipment operation, safety procedures and maintenance.
Major irrigation repairs were completed at Eaton Blanche Park. The report said the project restored water flow and supports conservation efforts.
The Recreation and Parks Commission meeting begins at 6 p.m. at City Yards Public Works Building, at 233 West Mountain Street in Pasadena.
