A 30-year-old Laverne man was robbed of his e-bike late Wednesday night by a suspect armed with a hammer, Pasadena Police Lieutenant Sam De Sylva said.
De Sylva said officers responded at 11:19 p.m. to the area of Cordova Street and Hudson Avenue after the victim reported the robbery. The incident began when the suspect approached the victim and asked if he wanted to buy a bottle of tequila.
When the victim declined, the suspect, a 47 African American man from Altadena grabbed the handlebars of the e-bike, pulled out a hammer, and threatened to kill him, De Sylva said. Fearing for his safety, the victim surrendered the e-bike.
The victim followed the suspect while calling 911from the 100 block of South Lake Avenue. Officers detained the suspect near Hudson Avenue and Del Mar Boulevard minutes later. The hammer was found in the suspect’s front pocket, and the e-bike was recovered, De Sylva said.
The suspect was transported to the Pasadena City Jail and booked on suspicion of robbery according to De Sylva.
The victim was not injured, De Sylva said.
