A police pursuit of a stolen vehicle through Pasadena on Tuesday evening was canceled after the suspect fled onto the 101 Freeway and officers lost visual contact, according to Pasadena Police Lieutenant Anthony Russo.
Russo said officers became aware of the stolen blue Dodge Charger around 7:55 p.m. near Hammond Street and Morton Avenue. Officers attempted a traffic stop after observing the vehicle traveling eastbound on Hammond Street and turning south onto Fair Oaks Avenue.
When officers activated their lights and sirens, the driver fled at a high rate of speed, Russo said.
The pursuit lasted about five minutes and covered approximately three miles before the suspect entered the westbound 101 Freeway.
Russo stated that once on the freeway, the vehicle accelerated beyond the officers’ ability to maintain visual contact.
“We canceled the pursuit and notified the California Highway Patrol of the outstanding vehicle,” Russo said.
The suspect was described by Russo as an unknown African American man in his 20s. No injuries or collisions were reported during the incident.
