The driver of a Lexus stolen in Long Beach led Pasadena police officers on a brief but high-speed pursuit Friday evening before the California Highway Patrol took over the chase, according to Pasadena Police Lieutenant Matt Campeau.
The incident began at 7:36 p.m. when a Flock camera alerted officers to a stolen white Lexus near Fair Oaks Avenue and Glenarm Street, Campeau said.
An officer in the area located the vehicle and attempted a traffic stop using overhead lights and siren, but the driver failed to yield.
A pursuit was initiated northbound on Fair Oaks Avenue, then westbound on Maple Street, and onto the 134 Freeway, Campeau reported. The Pasadena police helicopter was overhead, but the pursuit was canceled shortly afterward due to safety concerns.
The department’s airship continued tracking the vehicle and notified CHP, Campeau said.
CHP officers later initiated their own pursuit in Los Angeles, where two occupants fled from the vehicle and were taken into custody, according to Campeau.
For Pasadena officers, the pursuit lasted approximately 2 minutes and 40 seconds, covered about 4.25 miles, and reached speeds of 100 miles per hour, Campeau said.
No injuries were reported.
