The Pasadena Police Department will present a comprehensive crime statistics report at the Human Services Commission meeting on Wednesday, detailing their activities from October 2024 through January 2025.

Based on preliminary reports, the presentation will highlight the department’s handling of over 206,000 dispatch calls and 94,000 service requests during the reporting period.

According to the Police Department’s community brief summary, officers responded to more than 57,000 emergency calls via 9-1-1 and successfully resolved 276 potentially dangerous situations using de-escalation techniques. The report also notes 1,695 calls involving homeless individuals throughout the reporting timeframe.

A significant focus of the presentation will be the department’s weapons recovery efforts. The summary said the department seized up to 138 firearms during routine traffic stops, probation searches, and stolen vehicle recoveries. Many of these incidents resulted in felony weapons charges for the suspects involved.

The brief outlines major crime statistics year-to-date through January 2025, including 4 homicides, 158 robberies, 430 aggravated assaults, and 699 burglaries across the city. Additional figures show 340 motor vehicle thefts, 607 simple assaults, 194 DUI arrests, and 414 domestic violence incidents.

The report details several successful robbery arrests, including apprehension of an armed suspect who robbed someone after meeting at a bar. Officers also arrested a tip jar thief who threatened a store employee with a knife and quickly captured a suspect who robbed a wheelchair-bound victim.

Officers effectively responded to numerous assault incidents during this period, including domestic violence situations, unprovoked attacks on elderly victims, road rage confrontations, brandishing firearms, and group assaults. The department emphasized their commitment to de-escalation, documenting 276 such successful interventions through January.

The community safety section of the report tracks pattern crimes to increase public awareness, reporting 8-13 package thefts, 1-8 catalytic converter thefts, and 10-35 bicycle or scooter thefts monthly. The data shows shoplifting occurred 44-70 times per month, while license plate thefts ranged from 6-15 incidents monthly.

Each month identifies high-collision intersections and primary crash factors, with improper turning consistently ranking as the leading cause at 17-25% of accidents. Unsafe speed accounts for 14-19% of collisions, while traffic signal or sign violations contribute to 14% of crashes.

Each monthly brief includes practical safety advice for residents on preventing vehicle theft, protecting packages, and properly reporting crimes as witnesses. The Pasadena Police Department said this comprehensive reporting demonstrates their commitment to transparency, crime prevention, and maintaining public safety through both enforcement actions and community education.

Wednesday’s meeting of the Human Services Commission begins at 6 p.m. at the Jackie Robinson Community Center, at 1020 N. Fair Oaks Avenue. Other agenda items include selection of a temporary Vice Chair by Acting Chair Nadine Isaacs and discussion of the Commission Work Plan for March 2025.
