Pasadena Public Library Launches Early Equity Reading Kit

Published on Monday, April 10, 2023 | 5:18 am

The Pasadena Public Library has launched a new early equity reading kit collection for young learners to help nurture socially conscious children.

The collection features a selection of curated resources. There are 30 different equity kits to choose from.

Each kit has five to eight books and a sharing guide in a backpack for easy checkout. Although designed for children newborn to age eight, the kits are available to everyone.

Early equity kit topics include body positivity, happy Black families, sadness and grief, kindness, celebrating East Asian families, gender expression, and more.

Parents and caregivers are encouraged to review all included materials before sharing them with their children.

This new addition to the library’s collection at Jefferson Branch Children and Teen Services can be explored visiting the online catalog.

The early equity kit collection was led by the City’s Office of the Young Child and funded in part or whole by the Institute of Museum and Library Services through an LSTA (Library Services and Technology Act) grant and through a Shard Vision grant administered by the California State Librarian.
