The City of Pasadena’s Public Works Department has secured prestigious reaccreditation from the American Public Works Association, Acting Director of Public Works Kris Markarian announced.
The department, which first achieved American Public Works Association accreditation in March 2020, underwent a rigorous year-long process to earn reaccreditation.
The process involved updating policies and procedures, reporting organizational changes, and demonstrating compliance with recommended practices outlined in the Public Works Management Practices Manual, Markarian said.
The results were evaluated by American Public Works Association staff.
“This reaccreditation reaffirms our commitment to the Pasadena community to preserve, maintain, and enhance the City’s infrastructure and natural resources,” Markarian said.
Pasadena’s Public Works Department was the 20th agency in California and the 130th out of 35,000 in North America to receive initial American Public Works Association accreditation. The original certification followed two years of dedicated work and internal evaluation, resulting in over 80 new policies, procedures, and best management practices.
Following the reaccreditation, the American Public Works Association added Pasadena’s model for supporting city-wide goals to its Accreditation Community Library, serving as a resource for other agencies.
