Pasadena Runs Free E-Waste Drop-Off and Shredding at Brookside Park on Saturday

Pasadena residents can drop off electronic waste and have documents shredded free of charge from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Brookside Park, where the city’s Public Works Department will run a drive-through collection in Parking Lot I.

The event, at 360 N. Arroyo Blvd. in the lot south of the Rose Bowl, is open to city residents, and shredding is capped at the equivalent of three legal-size boxes (though boxes are not required).

State law bars discarding electronics with household trash.

Public Works personnel will accept televisions, computers, cell phones, household batteries including rechargeables, fluorescent bulbs and tubes, and small kitchen appliances.

Large appliances such as refrigerators, washers and dryers will not be taken, nor will air conditioners, water heaters, large printers and copiers, car batteries, solar panels or household hazardous waste.

The line closes at 2 p.m. to process remaining customers at that time, but the event may end sooner if collection trucks reach capacity.

The city asks residents to erase sensitive data from devices, remove documents from ring binders and bulldog and binder clips, and take fluorescent bulbs and tubes out of lamps and metal housing before arriving.
