The change comes as part of the Eaton Wash Stormwater Capture Project. The city will hold a public meeting on Wednesday, Nov. 12, to discuss the plan.
According to the plans, underground infrastructure will capture and treat stormwater from a 10,294-acre drainage area. The system aims to improve water quality for Eaton Wash, Rio Hondo and the Los Angeles River.
Above ground, the site will become a passive park, with planned features including bioswales, shaded gathering areas and outdoor classrooms. Demonstration gardens and interpretive signage about the site’s history round out the amenities.
The public meeting on Nov. 12 runs from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lamanda Park Branch Library, at 140 S. Altadena Drive.
Public Works staff will present project updates and implementation timelines. They will also explain the environmental review process for the Initial Study/Mitigated Negative Declaration.
The Public Works Department leads the project. Officials developed the plan with input from Pasadena residents and stakeholders.
The city-owned parcel sits adjacent to Eaton Blanche Park. Its location near Eaton Wash Channel makes it suitable for stormwater management.
Community members can ask questions and discuss the project with staff at the meeting.
