Community members can weigh in Wednesday, November 4, when the Pasadena Department of Transportation holds a virtual community meeting on proposed street-safety improvements for the corridor.

City transportation officials are examining about 1.8 miles of roadway between Walnut and Columbia streets, including connecting cross streets. The project aims to improve safety and access for motorists, pedestrians, bicyclists and transit riders while strengthening connections to nearby neighborhoods and destinations.

The department is studying possible improvements to traffic signals, intersections, sidewalks, accessibility features, bicycle facilities and transit connections, along with traffic-calming measures and streetscape enhancements. The proposals are preliminary, and no final design has been selected. The city has said the project will maintain the existing number of through travel lanes for drivers.

Community feedback will help officials evaluate alternatives, identify a preferred design and advance the project through preliminary engineering and environmental review. The city plans to develop design alternatives after gathering public comments, then return to residents for further review. The effort builds on community planning conducted in 2022 around the former State Route 710 northern stub.

Funding comes from Los Angeles Metro’s Measure R Mobility Improvement Program. Pasadena’s capital improvement program appropriated $75.1 million for planning, design and construction, and in November 2025 the City Council authorized a contract with Kimley-Horn and Associates Inc. for engineering and design services, with a maximum value of $4,848,630.

The November 4 session is the second of two; the first was held at Maranatha High School. Spanish and Mandarin interpretation will be available. Participants can join through the link on the city’s project webpage or by calling (213) 338-8477 with meeting ID 856 0537 7891. Comments can also be submitted on the project website.

Pasadena Avenue and St. John Avenue Roadway Network Project community meeting will run on Wednesday, November 4 at 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Zoom.
