Critical fire weather conditions will return to the Southland Wednesday, with two days of hot, dry weather followed by the first truly cold days of autumn, forecasters said Tuesday.
“Big swings in the weather this week, going from near normal temps, to much above normal, to well below normal all in the span of about four days,” the National Weather Service predicted.
The City of Roses should hit 92 on Thursday.
That heat and low relative humidity will increase fire danger, prompting the NWS to warn residents to use extreme caution with potential fire sources.
But a sharp cooling trend will arrive on Friday and continue into the weekend with a chance of light showers on Sunday.
Pasadena will see a high of just 66 on Saturday
Nighttime lows will begin dropping into the 40s.
The NWS said “a very cold upper low will drop south along the West Coast Friday and usher in a much colder air mass that will stick around for the next several days.”

Wednesday: Sunny, with a high near 88. North northeast wind around 5 mph becoming calm.
Wednesday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 62. North northeast wind around 5 mph.
Thursday: Sunny, with a high near 92. North northeast wind 5 to 10 mph becoming southwest in the afternoon.
Thursday Night: Patchy fog after 10 p.m. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, with a low around 60.
Friday: Partly sunny, with a high near 74.
Friday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 47.
Saturday: Sunny, with a high near 62.
Saturday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 44.
Sunday: A slight chance of rain. Mostly sunny, with a high near 61.
Sunday Night: A slight chance of rain. Mostly clear, with a low around 42.
Monday: Sunny, with a high near 64.
