The City of Pasadena is preparing to conduct a comprehensive survey of its historic resources, with the aim of identifying and documenting buildings, structures, objects, sites and districts that have historical significance. The project will be carried out by qualified historic preservation consultants under the supervision of the Planning and Community Development Department.
The project will consist of three phases: developing a historic context statement that outlines the themes and patterns of the city’s history; conducting a reconnaissance survey that identifies potential historic resources across the city; and conducting an intensive survey that evaluates the eligibility of selected resources for historical designation or listing.
The project will also involve a robust public engagement program that will seek input from various stakeholders and community members on the city’s diverse histories and resources. The public will have opportunities to participate in workshops, meetings, surveys and other activities throughout the project.
The City Council has allocated funds for the project in its FY22/23 budget. The Planning and Community Development Department will present its work plan for the project to the Historic Preservation Commission on Tuesday, March 7, 2023 at 6:00 p.m. in the Permit Center Hearing Room.
The work plan is available online by clicking here.
