Pasadena Transit and Pasadena Dial-A-Ride will offer free rides on Wednesday, Oct. 1 in celebration of California Clean Air Day, part of a coordinated regional push to reduce pollution and promote sustainable mobility.
The initiative concludes SoCal Transit Month, a September campaign hosted by MoveLA encouraging Southern Californians to “ride more and drive less.” Pasadena’s Department of Transportation announced the city’s participation alongside Metro and Foothill Transit, which will also offer free rides.
California Clean Air Day, held annually on the first Wednesday of October, invites communities to take action for cleaner air. As cleanairday.org states, “shared experiences unite people to action to improve our community health.”
Pasadena Transit recently introduced its first Battery Electric Bus, expanding a fleet already powered by renewable natural gas. This step aligns with the city’s Zero-Emission Bus Transition Plan.
“The Department of Transportation is committed to achieving the safe, efficient, and convenient movement of people and goods within Pasadena, while concurrently ensuring a balance between land use and transportation to maintain a livable community in which cars are not necessary to travel within the city,” the agency stated.
Riders are encouraged to download the free Dashboard.Earth app to track climate-friendly actions such as riding transit, conserving water, and reducing waste. Prizes are available for those who log trips during SoCal Transit Month and on Clean Air Day.
“Get the Dashboard.Earth App and start tracking today,” the city urged.
