The Pasadena Department of Transportation Transit Division has scheduled in-person outreach at three upcoming community events in May to help older adults sign up for Pasadena Dial-A-Ride, Senior Reduced Fare TAP cards, and other Pasadena Transit services.

The events, tied to Older Americans Month, include the 10th Annual Older Adult Transportation Expo on Friday, May 15, at the Pasadena Convention Center; two Speaker Series sessions at the Villa Parke Community Center on Tuesday, May 19, and Thursday, May 21; and the city’s fifth annual Older Americans Month Celebration at Victory Park on Wednesday, May 20. The outreach continues a pattern of in-person engagement that, according to the city, has included recent visits to senior living facilities and tabling at the Pasadena Senior Center monthly Health Fair.

The Pasadena Department of Transportation’s Transit Division operates Pasadena Transit and Pasadena Dial-A-Ride. Dial-A-Ride is a shared, curb-to-curb service available to qualifying riders in Pasadena, Altadena, San Marino, and surrounding unincorporated areas of Los Angeles County. Fares are 75 cents each way.

Mayor Victor M. Gordo proclaimed May 2026 as Older Americans Month in Pasadena on May 4, joining the national observance held each May. The 2026 national theme is “Champion Your Health.”

Joaquin T. Siques, Director of the Department of Transportation, and Transit Division staff have conducted other outreach this spring, the department said. According to the city, staff recently provided information to more than 50 residents at Pilgrim Tower North, table monthly at the Pasadena Senior Center’s Health Fair, and displayed a Pasadena Transit bus at the Accessibility Resource Fair held at Pasadena City Hall on May 2.

The 10th Annual Older Adult Transportation Expo is organized by Metro’s On the Move Riders Program. According to Metro, the free event runs from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., with doors opening at 8:30 a.m. Pasadena Transit will operate a free shuttle between the Memorial Park A Line Station, at 125 E. Holly St., and the Pasadena Convention Center, at 300 E. Green St., from 8:15 to 10 a.m. and from 1:30 to 3 p.m. The press release announcing the Transit Division’s participation lists event hours of 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

“We’re expecting over 500 older adults from all over the county to come and join us,” Lily Ortiz, manager of Metro’s On the Move Riders Program, said on Pasadena Media’s “On the Move” podcast in April.

The Older Americans Month Celebration on May 20 at Victory Park, 2575 Paloma St., is hosted by the City of Pasadena Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department, the Senior Commission, and Pasadena Village, a nonprofit membership organization that helps older adults age in place. The event runs from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and will feature more than 50 exhibitors, according to the city. Transit Division staff will be on-site to assist with transportation questions.

“This celebration reinforces the importance of empowering older adults to take an active role in their health and well-being. It connects people with tools, programs, and services that help them thrive at every stage of aging,” said Koko Panossian, Director of the Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department, in a city statement.

“Our community is fortunate to have an extensive network of support, from health care and older adult programming to cultural and recreational opportunities,” said Katie Brandon, Senior Commissioner and Executive Director of Pasadena Village, in the same statement. “We’re looking forward to bringing people together to connect, learn, and celebrate aging in a positive way.”

The Speaker Series at Villa Parke Community Center, 363 E. Villa St., runs from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on both May 19 and May 21, according to the department. Pasadena Transit staff will provide an overview of Pasadena Dial-A-Ride services and general information about Pasadena Transit. Sessions will be offered in English and Spanish and will conclude with a question-and-answer session and optional application support.

Pasadena Dial-A-Ride uses the regional Reduced Fare TAP card system for membership eligibility. The Senior Reduced Fare TAP card is available to residents 60 years and older. Information on Dial-A-Ride applications is available from the Pasadena Dial-A-Ride Administrative Office at (626) 744-4094.

The Older Americans Month Celebration is supported by in-kind contributions from Pasadena Village, Home Instead–Pasadena, UCLA Health, Villa Gardens, and other sponsors, according to the city.
