Pasadena Unified: Cell Phone Policy Enhances Learning Environment

District reports increased focus as students adapt to three-year-old rule

Three years ago, PUSD implemented a cell phone policy to create distraction-free classrooms, which is now showing positive results, according a District statement.

The policy, aimed at improving student focus and interpersonal skills, requires students to put away their phones upon entering classrooms.

Students are complying with the rule, often placing their devices in designated cell phone pockets provided in classrooms, the Disrict said. This approach allows for controlled phone usage during specific times determined by educators.

“We’re seeing the policy in action,” a PUSD spokesperson said. “Students are putting their phones away when they enter classrooms and using them during times designated by teachers.”

The District reports that the policy is helping students stay concentrated on their studies and develop crucial in-person interaction abilities. These skills are increasingly valuable in an era dominated by digital communication.

PUSD officials told the school community, “We appreciate your cooperation and support to keep our students focused on learning.”

Officials said this collective effort is key to the policy’s success.
