Charel Bailey will become principal of Norma Coombs Elementary School, bringing over 15 years of experience as a dedicated educator and administrator in K-12 and higher education settings. Her leadership background highlights a commitment to fostering inclusive, student-centered environments through school counseling, student support services, and community engagement.
Reyna Uka will take the helm at Washington Elementary STEM Magnet School after serving as the District Magnet School Coordinator. With 17 years of educational experience, Uka has expertise in magnet programs, curriculum, and instructional leadership. She most recently managed a $15 million magnet grant while collaborating with schools on curriculum, instructional strategy, and communication.
Bailey replaces Ray Cross, who moves to lead the Center for Independent Study, Rose City High School, and Twilight Adult School. Uka succeeds Karrone Meeks, who has accepted a position as Principal on Special Assignment.
Bailey holds a Ph.D. in Educational Leadership from the University of Southern California, along with degrees in Communication Studies from California State University, Long Beach, and School Counseling Leadership and Education Administration from California State University, Los Angeles.
Uka brings a master’s degree in educational administration and an administrative credential from National University, and a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish from the University of California, Santa Barbara.
