Pasadena Unified School District spokesperson Hilda Ramirez Horvath said Friday night that PUSD schools were expected to open on Monday, August 21 but if the decision were made to close them, the District would inform students, parents, and staff by 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, August 20.
Currently the District — which just opened schools for the new school year on Tuesday — plans for instruction to continue with rainy-day protocols.
As the storm approaches, PUSD is taking steps to ensure the safety of students and employees, Ramirez Horvath said.
The District has activated its Emergency Operations Center (EOC) and is monitoring rapidly-changing weather conditions. According to Ramirez Horvath, PUSD is in communication with county and local officials. District staff is working diligently to clear drains, add sandbags, and check roofs at all schools.
“The Pasadena Unified School District is committed to the safety and well-being of its students and staff,” Ramirez Horvath said.
If plans change and the District decides to close schools on Monday, Ramirez Horvath said the District will use texts, phone calls, and emails and encouraged the PUSD community to check the website www.pusd.us and District social media for any updates.
The District also urged families and staff to stay informed and be prepared. For more information, visit the City of Pasadena website.
