Pasadena Unified School District (PUSD) and Pasadena City College students will ride Pasadena Transit for free starting Aug. 19 as the GoPass program enters its fourth school year in the city.

The free transit initiative is part of a broader Metro program that has reached a significant milestone, surpassing 400,000 registered students and 40 million boardings countywide since its launch in October 2021.

Metro’s GoPass program, which became permanent in April following a successful pilot, provides unlimited free rides on Metro buses and trains to K-12 and community college students across Los Angeles County.

“Transportation needs shouldn’t get in the way of any student’s education,” said Los Angeles County Supervisor and Metro Board Chair Janice Hahn. “For many students and their families across LA County, the free Metro rides through our GoPass program have made all the difference.”

The program extends beyond Metro and Pasadena Transit, offering free rides on 15 additional transit agencies throughout the region, including Antelope Valley Transit Authority, Culver CityBus, and Long Beach Transit.

Participating school districts distribute TAP cards and activation codes to students, allowing them to use public transportation for school, extracurricular activities, and work without fare concerns. Students can activate their cards on the online GoPass portal, by calling 866.TAPTOGO, or use a virtual TAP card on the TAP LA App.

Interested students in Pasadena are advised to work with their schools to enroll in the free program and obtain a TAP card and activation information.

Metro encourages more students, families, and school districts to participate in the program, which aims to remove transportation barriers to education and increase access to cultural and recreational opportunities across the region.

The GoPass program has opened up new destinations for young people, making museums, parks, beaches, and concerts more accessible without transportation costs.
