A senior Pasadena Water and Power official will join a NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory scientist, a regional water manager and a technology company executive Wednesday, Oct. 14, for a discussion examining the relationship between water supplies, energy use and emerging technologies.

The event, presented by Pasadena Climate Commons and Caltech’s Resnick Sustainability Institute, is scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m. at FoundrSpace Coworking, 87 N. Raymond Ave. in Pasadena, according to organizers.

It will include a panel discussion and a showcase featuring four companies developing climate-related technologies, according to organizers.

The discussion will address challenges facing water systems, including drought planning, development of new water sources and the practical barriers to putting emerging technologies into use. Organizers say the panel will bring together perspectives from scientific research, public utilities and private companies.

Stacie Takeguchi, chief assistant general manager of Pasadena Water and Power, is scheduled to discuss water supply and regional water management. Takeguchi has more than 20 years of experience in the water industry, including work on regional drought planning at the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California, according to the utility.

Warren A. Teitz of the Metropolitan Water District is scheduled to address the development of new water sources, desalination and the adoption of emerging technologies by public water agencies. A scientist from NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory is also scheduled to participate.

Priyanka Kompella, identified by organizers as chief executive of Water from Air, will discuss technology under development that uses waste heat from data centers to extract water from the atmosphere.

Four companies are listed for the accompanying showcase. Captura is working on ocean-based carbon removal, Thiozen on low-carbon hydrogen production, Mitico on carbon capture and Water from Air on atmospheric water generation, according to the event description. The showcase is intended to allow attendees to examine the technologies and speak with representatives of the participating companies.

The program begins with the startup showcase at 6 p.m., followed by the panel discussion at 6:30 p.m. Audience questions are scheduled for 7:15 p.m., with the showcase and networking resuming at 7:30 p.m.

The event is part of a six-program Pasadena series taking place Oct. 13-16 during LA Tech Week, according to a Sept. 23 announcement from the City of Pasadena. The city’s Economic Development Division and Innovate Pasadena organized the local series, which also includes programs on health care artificial intelligence, startup pitches and space technology.

This is the second consecutive year Pasadena and Innovate Pasadena have organized a local series during LA Tech Week, the city said. The Pasadena program is sponsored by the city’s Economic Development Division and the Pasadena Small Business Development Center, according to event organizers.

Admission is listed as free, with advance registration information available through the event’s Partiful registration page. Prospective attendees should check the registration page for availability.
