In a move to bolster community support for older adults, Pasadena Village has announced a partnership with Corner Bakery Cafe for a “Give Back Fundraiser” on Saturday, July 20, 2024. The initiative aims to raise funds for the nonprofit organization’s mission of fostering independent living for seniors.

Participants can contribute to the cause by dining at Corner Bakery Cafe’s Pasadena location at 345 South Lake Avenue, Suite 107. When customers use the ‘promo code 659,’ the restaurant will donate 25% of purchases to Pasadena Village.

The fundraiser offers multiple ways for community members to participate, including dine-in, take-out, delivery directly from Corner Bakery, and pick-up options. (However, the organization notes that orders through third-party delivery apps will not be eligible for the donation.)

Founded in 2012, Pasadena Village has grown from 50 charter members to over 180 members today, ranging in age from 65 to 99. The organization provides a variety of services and activities to support older adults in the Pasadena area.

Pasadena Village aims to help older adults remain independent while staying connected to their community. The nonprofit offers over 70 member-led small group gatherings and events each month, including walking groups and cultural outings. It also provides access to volunteers and service providers who assist with tasks like grocery shopping, household chores, and transportation to medical appointments.

The fundraising event at Corner Bakery Cafe reflects the organization’s commitment to community involvement and financial sustainability. Pasadena Village relies on membership dues, donations, and grants to support its operations and programs for seniors. It has received funding from organizations like the Pasadena Community Foundation.

Corner Bakery Cafe, a fixture in Pasadena since April 29, 2003, offers a diverse menu including breakfast dishes, sandwiches, salads, and baked goods. The casual dining atmosphere and free Wi-Fi have made it a popular spot for both dining and working.

This partnership exemplifies the growing trend of local businesses supporting community organizations. It provides an opportunity for Pasadena residents to enjoy a meal while contributing to a cause that benefits the area’s older population.

Pasadena Village is part of the national Village Movement, which includes about 300 villages across the United States. It is also a member of Village Movement California. The organization’s growth from 130 members pre-pandemic to its current size demonstrates the increasing need for support services for older adults.

In addition to its member services, Pasadena Village hosts free educational programs open to the public on topics relevant to older adults, such as finances, health, and technology. As the population ages, initiatives like this fundraiser play a crucial role in ensuring that seniors can maintain their independence and community connections.
