Pasadena Water and Power (PWP) is proactively addressing community concerns as it embarks on a crucial water infrastructure project along Bellefontaine Street, spanning from Pasadena Avenue to Fair Oaks Avenue.
In a statement, PWP said crews are replacing approximately 1,400 feet of 10-inch cast iron water mainline, which is over 100 years old, with a 12-inch ductile iron water main as part of a major water infrastructure upgrade to increase the reliability and quality of water service across PWP’s service area.
Construction work started this week and is slated for completion by June 2024. To mitigate impacts on traffic flow, construction activities will be confined to one block at a time, with temporary lane closures and traffic control measures in place. Motorists are advised to follow posted signs and directions from flagmen.
Heavy equipment will be used throughout the construction period, so PWP intends to keep noise and dust to a minimum to ensure a more comfortable environment for residents.
To effectively manage water service interruptions. PWP said it will provide advanced notice of any interruptions so that residents and businesses will have ample time to prepare. Efforts will also be made to expedite the restoration of water service.
PWP said it’s important to be able to communicate with customers and engage with the community throughout the project. Residents and businesses can reach out to PWP by calling Anne Quizon, Assistant Engineer, at (626) 744-7949, or sending an email to aquizon@cityofpasadena.net.
PWP is also currently replacing two water mains on Fair Oaks Ave., from Montana St. to Washington Blvd. They are removing one eight-inch and one 12-inch line, both of which have been in service for more than 90 years, and replacing them with a 12-inch ductile iron mainline pipe. The project began in March near Washington Blvd. and Fair Oaks Ave. and will continue northward, aiming for completion by March 2025.
Previously, in March 2022, the city finished the Colorado Blvd. Main Replacement project, upgrading a six-inch main to an eight-inch main for improved water pressure and quality along Colorado Blvd. between Meredith Avenue and Altadena Drive.
