Pasadena Water and Power (PWP) has released a new children’s storybook aimed at introducing young readers to careers in public utilities.

“Kate’s Career Date” follows an alien character as she tours the municipal utility and meets employees in various roles. The book is the latest addition to the award-winning Outtawatta Family educational series.

David M. Reyes, general manager of Water & Power, announced the release of the book. The story features Kate meeting a line worker, water treatment operator, engineer, electrical tester, water chemist and customer service representative.

The materials include both the storybook and an accompanying animated video. They are part of an ongoing campaign to highlight career opportunities in water quality, power delivery and customer service.

The Outtawatta Family series centers on an intergalactic space family who recently moved to Pasadena. The educational materials teach children and families about water conservation, energy efficiency and utility operations.

Existing books and videos in the series cover water conservation, Pasadena’s water sources, energy efficiency, renewable energy and electrical safety. The new career-focused material marks the first addition to the series for 2025.

The storybook is available for reading online. Free downloadable resources from the entire Outtawatta Family series can be found at PWPweb.com/OuttawattaFamily.
