Pasadena Water and Power is offering residential electric customers up to $1,000 in rebates for the purchase of a new electric bicycle from a bike shop located in Pasadena, as part of an ongoing effort to promote sustainable transportation and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

The rebate includes a standard $500 incentive for all qualifying customers, with an additional $500 available to those enrolled in Pasadena Water and Power’s income-qualified bill assistance program at the time of application submission.

To be eligible, customers must purchase a new Class 1, Class 2 or Class 3 e-bike—defined by the California Department of Motor Vehicles as a bicycle with operable pedals and an electric motor under 750 watts—from a retailer located in Pasadena.

Class 1 e-bikes provide pedal-assisted support up to 20 mph. Class 2 models use a throttle and cease assistance at 20 mph. Class 3 e-bikes offer pedal-assisted support up to 28 mph and must include a speedometer.

Used e-bikes, scooters, mopeds, Segways and e-bike conversion kits do not qualify. Electric bicycles that are gifted, transferred from a family member, or won as a prize are also ineligible. The rebate amount cannot exceed the purchase price of the bicycle, and each residential electric account is limited to two rebates. Additionally, the primary owner of the e-bike must permanently reside at the Pasadena Water and Power residential electric service address listed on the rebate application.

To apply, customers must submit an online application within 180 days of purchase. Installation must be completed before submitting the application. Required documentation includes a detailed sales receipt showing the total cost, date of purchase, and manufacturer/model name; photos of the e-bike and its serial number; and a signed rebate agreement form. Once approved, rebate checks are issued within six to eight weeks.

The program is subject to verification and may be modified by Pasadena Water and Power at any time. Funding is limited and rebates are calculated based on the incentive levels in effect at the time of application.
