Pasadena Water and Power has released its Annual Report for 2015, indicating the utility generated more than $261 million in operating revenue and invested more than $86 million in system improvements.

The report also showed PWP has contributed over $18 million to the City’s General Fund to support vital public services.

PWP reported key accomplishments in the annual report including the continuous work on the Glenarm Repowering Project which will provide 71 megawatts of clean, natural gas-fueled power to the city. The project is expected to significantly improve the local power generation and provide clean, efficient and reliable power by 2016.

PWP also completed and submitted the Environmental Impact Report for the city’s Non-Potable Water Project, achieved respective ratings of AA+ and AA affirmed by Fitch Ratings for water and electric revenue bonds, and is on target to achieve a Renewable Portfolio Standard of 40 percent which exceeds the state goal.

The utility also replaced approximately 40 utility poles and 14.6 miles of underground cable and overhead lines, as well as 2.5 miles of aging water mains, and provided various school programs, online educational tools, publications, incentives and more than 60 workshops to encourage water and energy conservation.

With the ongoing drought creating challenges for water agencies, PWP conducted over 60 public workshops, campaigns and incentive programs to educate and engage the public as the city strives to comply with a state-mandated water goal of 28 percent.

PWP’s processes for water waste monitoring and reporting have also been bolstered with combined efforts estimated to save approximately 1,700 acre-feet of water per year.

PWP introduced a variety of tools that enable customers to report and receive outage information by phone, mobile device, or online.

The annual report also mentioned that investment in emerging technologies to improve communication and convenience, streamline data, and encourage water conservation and energy efficiency continues to be an ongoing priority for PWP.
