The “Solar Power and Battery 101” workshop will begin at 6 p.m. on Zoom, according to Pasadena Water and Power.
Utility staff will discuss how residents can select vendors, evaluate solar and battery-storage systems and navigate Pasadena permitting and electrical-code requirements. The workshop will also cover available rebates.
Pasadena Water and Power said in an Oct. 23 announcement that rebates can save residents an average of 20% to 30% on upfront costs.
“Choosing to install solar power and battery storage at home is a meaningful investment that pays off for both our customers and our city,” Pasadena Water and Power General Manager David Reyes said in the utility’s announcement. Reyes said the installations support Pasadena’s goal of reaching 100% carbon-free electricity by the end of 2030 while giving customers greater control over energy use and costs.
The workshop comes as Pasadena expands residential clean-energy incentives and develops a larger-scale battery-storage project.
The city is developing a 25-megawatt, four-hour battery energy storage system next to the Glenarm Power Plant. Pasadena Water and Power says the project will store excess daytime solar generation for use during evening peak demand and support local electric reliability. Construction began in September, with completion expected in summer 2027.
Pasadena Water and Power also launched solar and battery rebate programs this year for residential and commercial customers. Residential customers currently can receive rebates for qualifying rooftop solar and battery-storage installations, while certain PWP plan-review and inspection fees are temporarily being waived. The utility also is developing a low-interest solar and battery loan program for residential electric customers.
