All Saints Church in Pasadena will serve as the venue for the consecration of the Episcopal Diocese of Los Angeles’ eighth bishop diocesan on Saturday, July 11, 2026, the Episcopal Diocese of Los Angeles Standing Committee announced August 19.
The Pasadena parish—known for its large worship capacity—was chosen by the Standing Committee, which cited its facilities and location in the announcement. The announcement was made by Kate Cress, president of the Standing Committee.
All Saints is the largest parish in the diocese, with seating for 800 in its main sanctuary and capacity for an additional 400 in overflow areas where the service will be livestreamed. The church’s infrastructure—including air conditioning, clergy vesting areas, reception space, proximity to hotels for out-of-town guests, and ample nearby parking—was spotlighted as instrumental in the selection.
“It is always a joy when the diocese comes together to see the rich tapestry of our composition,” said Tim Rich, priest-in-charge at All Saints. “But it will be a particular privilege for All Saints to welcome the diocese for such a special occasion.”
The decision reflects guidance from Presiding Bishop Sean Rowe, who has encouraged dioceses to hold consecrations in churches rather than more costly alternate venues. Rowe’s own consecration was held at the Episcopal Church Center chapel in New York City, rather than the National Cathedral in Washington, D.C., to model fiscal responsibility and prioritize mission. He has urged dioceses to focus energy and resources on new initiatives of mission and ministry.
The July 2026 liturgy will mark a significant moment for the Diocese of Los Angeles, which encompasses congregations and ministry centers across six Southern California counties. While the bishop-elect has not yet been announced, the consecration is expected to draw attendees from across the region, with overflow and livestream access planned.
