The foundation treats adults regardless of their ability to pay and runs residential, outpatient and sober living programs for men 18 and over. Its houses sit in the Garfield Heights neighborhood, with room for up to 33 men in residential treatment, 22 in funded residential bridge housing and 22 in self-paid sober living.
The new partner is End Overdose, a national organization whose work includes opioid overdose training and certification and the distribution of naloxone and free test strips through regional chapters and volunteers. The foundation said it has invited the group’s team to come in every other month to work with both staff and patients.
Executive Director Shelly Wood, writing in the newsletter, described the program’s approach as collaborative rather than dependent on any one person, saying recovery is not the responsibility of a single individual and that “it is strengthened through connection, collaboration, and community.” The foundation said its residential program pairs evidence-based groups with care coordination and individual counseling, staffed by substance use disorder counselors, care coordination counselors, group facilitators and technicians.
The issue’s alumni feature profiles a man the newsletter identifies as Anthony D., who describes clarity as the difference between who he was and who he is. “Today, I feel more like myself than I have in a very long time,” he said.
The Grandview Poker Tournament, which the foundation also calls its Team Up For Recovery tournament, is set for Friday, Sept. 18 at La Casita del Arroyo in Pasadena. Registration is online through the foundation, which is also seeking sponsors.
The Grandview Foundation Alumni Association meets on the second Wednesday of each month, at Fair Oaks at 6 p.m. with a panel to follow and at Grandview at 7 p.m. The foundation listed Oct. 14, Nov. 11 and Dec. 9 as the next meeting dates. Anyone who needs to check in sooner can call (626) 797-1124.
