
The Shop Local Pasadena pilot program launched Oct. 1. More than 1,100 businesses have signed up. Some 530 users downloaded the app.
The pilot runs through March 31, 2026.
Participants earn 5% cash back on purchases at local stores. The initiative aims to boost the city’s economy while tracking spending patterns.
Economic Development Director David A. Klug will present an update on the program Tuesday before the city’s Economic Development and Technology Committee. The meeting starts at 5 p.m. in City Council Chambers.
The update also covers several business openings, among them Javier’s Finest Foods of Mexico, which opened at One Colorado in the former Il Fornaio space. The restaurant features elevated Mexican cuisine and premium tequilas.
Wushiland Boba opened at The Paseo, joining 27 shops on Visit Pasadena’s Boba Trail. Robbins Brothers launched a flagship jewelry showroom at 587 E. Colorado Blvd.
Arrowhead Pharmaceuticals, based in Pasadena, received its first FDA approval in November, according to the update. The drug Redemplo treats a rare condition causing severe pancreatitis.
The company also received a $200 million milestone payment from Sarepta Therapeutics. Its stock surged 62% between Nov. 17 and Dec. 3.
Five Altadena businesses reopened Nov. 22 during a “Rising Together” celebration. The January Eaton Fire displaced nearly 1,900 businesses and caused up to $42 billion in losses.
The first home rebuilt in Pasadena’s burn zone was completed before Thanksgiving, the update added. The Upper Hastings Ranch residence features fire-resistant materials including a metal roof and aluminum siding.
Seventeen businesses applied for grants through the Commercial Façade Improvement Program. Awards of up to $20,000 support exterior upgrades in eligible areas. Recipients will be announced in January 2026.
