There is a simple promise behind a certified farmers market: the person who grew your food is the person selling it to you. That promise is on offer every Tuesday at Villa Parke, where the Pasadena Certified Farmers’ Market gathers local growers from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
This Tuesday, July 7, shoppers can browse California fruits and vegetables at their summer peak, along with farm products from vendors who, by the market’s rules, sell only what they raise or grow themselves. The Tuesday market typically hosts about a dozen vendors — an intimate counterpart to the larger Saturday market at Victory Park — making it easy to talk with the farmers directly about what is in season.
Villa Parke sits at the intersection of North Garfield Avenue and East Villa Street, one block north of the 210 Freeway and roughly halfway between the Fair Oaks and Lake Avenue off-ramps. The market operates year-round, rain or shine, and accepts EBT and CalFresh benefits along with the Market Match program that stretches those dollars further.
For families weighing where the week’s produce comes from, the market offers both provenance and freshness in a single morning stop. Beyond fruits and vegetables, tables carry ranch-raised meats, fresh-baked goods, cut flowers and potted plants.
Established more than four decades ago, the Pasadena Certified Farmers’ Markets remain a fixture of local food culture, connecting neighbors to the growers who feed them.
The Pasadena Certified Farmers’ Market at Villa Parke takes place Tuesdays from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at 363 East Villa Street at North Garfield Avenue, Pasadena. For more information, call (626) 449-0179 or visit pasadenafarmersmarket.org. Admission is free.
