Pasadena City College announced Thursday that all campuses will remain closed through Sunday, January 12, due to the ongoing Eaton Fire emergency.
The wildfire has forced evacuations and destroyed homes of several college staff and faculty members in the past 24 hours, according to Superintendent-President José A. Gómez.
“This catastrophe has left us heartbroken, but it has also deepened our resolve to support our community,” Gómez said in a statement to the college community.
The college has suspended all normal operations, including athletic events and community activities.
The institution’s Emergency Operations Center has been activated to coordinate response efforts and monitor campus conditions, including air quality.
College officials are urging students and staff to monitor their PCC email accounts and the college’s fire updates website for the latest information. The institution has also implemented an emergency text alert system for immediate notifications.
Mental health resources have been made available for the campus community. Students can access after-hours counseling services, while staff and faculty can utilize the Employee Assistance Program for free and low-cost support.
The college will assess conditions and provide updates about operations beyond Sunday through its official communication channels.
