PCC’s Shannon Cheung Makes UCLA Swim Roster

Shannon Cheung, a two-time CCCAA state champion for Pasadena City College, has made the UCLA women’s swim team roster as a walk-on. Cheung participated in her first 4-year university meet in the Bruins’ dual meet victory over Washington State on October 10 at UCLA.

Cheung, a junior, scored third place in the 1,000-yard freestyle at 10:42.34.

At PCC, Cheung earned numerous awards, including the 2013-14 Women’s Athlete of the Year for all Lancers’ athletic teams. In her two seasons at PCC, she was named South Coast Conference Swimmer of the Year both years.

She accomplished four individual PCC school records and was part of an amazing five relay PCC record marks.  Her name is listed among the top four PCC fastest times in nine different individual events, including the top two marks in seven events. She accomplished South Coast Conference records by setting best-ever marks in the 200 IM and 1,650 freestyle. In May of this year, she helped the PCC women’s team to its highest team finish in state championship history at sixth place.
