PCC to Host Earth Day Spring Festival April 22

Pasadena City College’s Associated Students will host an Earth Day Spring Festival on Tuesday, April 22, featuring activities that celebrate environmental awareness while engaging the campus community.

The event, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the PCC Quad, will include flower arranging, pot painting, planting activities, carnival games, music and refreshments.

The festival represents just one facet of PCC’s ongoing environmental initiatives. The college has implemented numerous sustainability measures across campus operations in recent years.

PCC’s grounds maintenance department has prioritized water conservation by installing drought-tolerant and California native plants throughout the 53-acre campus. In a 2023 article on the PCC website, the Facilities and Construction Services department said they’re not only trying to save water, “but also be more earth-friendly.”

The facilities department has transitioned to low-carbon and electric maintenance equipment, utilizing electric blowers, weed eaters, mowers and sweepers to maintain campus grounds while reducing emissions.

PCC’s Transportation Services Department has also expanded sustainability efforts by operating shuttle services that run up to 17 hours daily during the academic week, reducing solo vehicle trips. The college continues working toward replacing gas-powered vehicles with electric alternatives throughout its fleet.

PCC’s sustainability programs extend to educational outreach, with facilities staff previously partnering with the college’s Child Development Center to engage preschoolers in planting activities and conservation awareness.

The Earth Day Spring Festival will take place at PCC’s campus 1570 E. Colorado Blvd. in Pasadena.
